The one MUST HAVE dish when eating dimsum is black bean ribs. I wonder how many pounds of ribs dimsum restaurants go through because every table orders at least one order, for sure. It’s fragrant, salty, and so flavorful. I look forward to this dish everytime we go for dimsum!
My mom made this one day and it tasted just like the restaurant’s. When she told me how to make it, I couldn’t believe how easy it was. If you’re in an Asian household, you will most likely have all ingredients on-hand.
Chinese Steamed Black Bean Ribs
2 lb. pork spareribs that have been cut into strips, cut in between bones to create about 1 inch pieces
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. sesame oil
1 Tbsp. water
3 Tbsp. fermented black beans, slightly smash with knife
1 Tbsp. minced garlic
1 Tbsp. minced ginger
1 Tbsp. sugar
Prepare the ribs.
Prepare a steamer. If you don’t have a steamer, you can use a large pot or deep pan. Place a rack into the pot or pan and fill with water until just below the rack. Wait until the water starts to boil.
As you’re waiting for the water to boil, combine all ingredients in a steamable dish, making sure to coat the ribs with the sauce. Spread the ribs into one single layer so that ribs are not overlapping each other.
When the water starts to boil, place the dish filled with ribs onto the rack and cover the entire pot/pan. Steam for about 30 minutes.
Serve immediately with rice or by itself.
